Serenity Now: A Recipe

My favourite place in Hawaii (correction: the entire world) is the Place of Refuge. I start and end each of my trips here, basking in the tidal pools where black lava meets the ocean. The best time of day is sunset, when the tide is in and rays of gold and pink reflect off the water’s surface. The lava rock warms my back while cool waves lap up against my legs. In the distance, the spray of a humpback’s hello and the splash of dolphins spinning in front of the sun. It feels like a dream, but it’s just another day in Hawaii. 

This place is steeped in magic. It is sacred land, at the epicentre of several geomagnetic lines and underneath a major constellation called the Pleiades. The native Hawaiian healers worked and connected with nature here so that anyone who crossed into its borders, no matter who or what they had done in life, would be given a new lease on life and receive healing. 

When home life gets crazy, I draw a bath and travel to this place in my mind’s eye. So until the next time, this recipe will do: 

Draw a warm bath
Surround with scented candles (coconut, orchid or plumeria)
Add 2 cups Epsom Salt (or Himalayan)
Sprinkle a handful of lavender for relaxation
Finish with 3-4 drops of sandalwood essential oil.
