I’m a tropical baby, which means that my happy place involves water, sunshine (and usually dolphins). My hubby, however, learned to ski at age 3 and has the fondest memories of flying down a hill, chairlift chats and cozy hot chocolate. In the spirit of learning to love our Canadian winters, we planned a winter getaway. What is it they say about letting go and embracing your reality? Turns out it worked for me, but largely because of Donna and Jerry’s beautiful B&B.
I credit Bluebird Meadows for changing my mind about winter. A peaceful retreat in the heart of Midland, it’s perfectly located for winter adventuring. Within a 20 minute radius are 2 downhill ski resorts, picturesque cross country trails with snowshoeing and hiking to boot. It’s quiet, light filled and my inner food lover is charmed every morning by Donna’s four course breakfasts, made with love and local ingredients in her home.
It’s amazing how a change of pace and a 2 hour drive can soothe the soul. A carefree ski down the slopes watching the sun set in a burst of pink and gold. I welcome a kiss of crisp winter air as I warm up doing cross country through a stand of trees. A pause to catch my breath means an opportunity to share a snack with the chickadees in my hand. Après ski at a cozy ale house then a warm bath to finish the night. Did I mention the quiet? I can hear my soul sing: “I really do love winter!”
Resistance is futile. Come enjoy winter with me!
